Pen Tool Basics
MAKING CURVES
1) Make a new image and select the Pen Tool [Screen Shot] - have your settings like mine [Screen Shot]
2) Click 3 points to make a line similar to mine [Screen Shot]
3) Select the Convert Point Tool [Screen Shot], and click on the middle node and hold it! Drag it down to create a wavy line, drag it to the left or right to create a smoother line [Screen Shot]. Don't worry if you let go of the node, just click the middle one again to start over. Try experimenting a little here to get a feel for it.
4) I'm sure you've noticed that 2 'handles' were created when you clicked the middle node [Screen Shot]. Click and drag one of nodes on the handles. As you can see this moves one side of the curve, where as just clicking the middle node moves both sides. Experiment a little more with this until you're confident with it.
MAKING SHAPES
1) Make a new image and select the Pen Tool and have your settings like mine [Screen Shot].
2) Make a simple shape but do not close the path, e.g don't connect the first and last point [Screen Shot]
3) Select the Convert Point Tool and click & drag one of the nodes to create a curve [Screen Shot]. Do the same of the other nodes to create a shape.
4) Closing the path - Select the Pen Tool and click on the first point of the shape [Screen Shot]. lol weird shape i know =b just play around and experiment.
When i first started to learn the pen tool i was so confused! But seriously the more you practise the quicker you'll get the hang of it =]
*TIP!* Wanna move the node to a different place? With the Pen Tool selected hold CTRL and click and drag the node where you want it =]
